Rebadged Pinto. I did not know about this. Not super impressed but honestly had no idea it existed. $1800 still cp for me but sure someone will want it.

Yeah, back when the big 3 were rebadging all the things. I had forgotten about it. Wasn’t memorable, I guess.
Taillights just look like they duplicated a mirror image of the pinto lights. Creative, haha—

Ford calls Mercury “Hey I want you to make a car based on the pinto and I want it done by Friday!”
Mercury “ but it Thursday night!?!?”
Ford *hangs up phone*

And Merc was already out drinking that Thursday, too.
My taillight description was actually for the pre facelift version. This was post facelift. Both pretty homely—

that just goes to show how long Mercury was a useless brand. After 1973 they had practically no reason to exist at all.

Interesting - and weren’t the Pinto ones re-purposed off the E series van at the time? Who knew Bobcats would hold their value so well!

I owned a all red ford/merc interior car once. It was bad.

I forgot about that. See this. Pretty sure the lenses were all the same—

And its competition?
A “sporty” and “luxurious” Chevy Vega clone. The Pontiac Astre.

At least the Name is better than Pinto. Some one in my town has an Orange/gold one that they daily drive in the summer. Next time I see it I’ll try to get a picture

Still going to give the Pinto the nod because it has a pretty nice badge.

I had a Bobcat Villager wagon once upon a time. It was a cool car.
